The MacBook Pro is a top level laptop in the Macintosh computer lineup of the US technology company Apple inc.It comes with a 64 bit processor or a central processing unit from the top line of i7 or the mid range of i5 division of semi conductor company Intel corps core brand. For the MacBook Pro there are four intel core i5 or i7 choices:one i5 processor called the i5-2415M and three i7 processors, which are the i7-2620M, i7-2635QM and i7-2720QM. Intel Corp. released these CPUs in early 2011.

General Description and Manufacture

The intel core i5 processor, the i5 2415M is a dual core chip consisting of two core or processing units. The i7-2620M is also a dual core CPU’s and the other two are quad core CPU’s,which means the they have twice the amount of processing power as the i5-2415M and the i7-2620M. All four processors, however, have the same size, since they both use the 32-nanometer manufacturing process.

Speeds

The clock speeds or the processing speed of the i5 processor is 2.3GHz.The clock speed of the quad core i7 processors which are 2 GHz for the i7-2635QM and 2.2 GHz for the i7-2720QM. The other i7 processor, however — the i7-2620M — surpasses them all with a clock speed of 2.7 GHz.

Cache and Power Consumption

Both the processors has an Intel smart cache, which is a small memory bank for the the CPU’s high speed access of the computer’s most frequently used data. The i5-2415M offers 3 MB, the i7-2620M offers 4 MB and the i7-2635QM and the i7-2720QM provide 6 MB.

Technologies

Both the processors has in built chip set called the HD graphics 3000 for graphics processing from the computer chip itself.Intel Trusted Execution Technology is added on the i7-2620M and the i7-2720M for safer computing, and every chip except for the i7-2635QM has Execute Disable Bit for antivirus protection.

HTC Desire is the product from HTC, A wonderful smartphone with Android platform. It is the best mobile or smartphone from the HTC which keeps HTC in the competition of Smartphone world. The dimensions of the HTC Desire are 119x 60x 11.9mm. The dimensions are required in order to accommodate the large touchscreen, whilst it remains slimline and lightweight at 135 g. The touchscreen is impressive, measuring 3.7 inches and utilising AMOLEDcapacitive technology, for superb display of on screen imagery, and a responsive touchscreen experience. This is made possible thanks to a pixel resolution of 480x 800 which can display up to 16 million colours. The screen features proximity and accelerometer sensors as well as multi-touch input support and has an optical trackpad beneath the screen offering an alternative method of navigating the innovative and customisable HTC Sense user interface.

Both vibration and ringing are utilised to alert users to incoming calls and messages, with the added bonus of supporting MP3 ringtones, allowing users to customise the sound of the phone. A simple to use speakerphone system is included along with a 3.5 mm audio jack which allows handsfree communication to be carried out with ease.

Along with the internal memory, there is a microSD card slot which comes with a 4 GB memory card included as standard. This should prove ample for the needs of most users as it can store a large amount of files, be they music tracks, videos or photos etc. Should further storage be required, this can be replaced with a memory card of up to 32 GB, which means users can potentially store a large digital music collection.

The HTC Desire is also an extremely effective and powerful camera phone. Located on the back of the handset, the 5 mega pixel camera operates at 2592x 1944 pixels and boasts Autofocus and LED flash. To keep track of where photos are taken, it also has geo-tagging which functions thanks to GPS. The camera can also shoot video in WVGA quality; however users can download the latest version of the Android operating system which will enable them to shoot HD footage in 720p quality.

Recently it was said that HTC Ville was built as a metal unibody, the thinnest HTC smartphone with about 8mm thickness and designed to have the thinnest phones among HTC.

Moreover, being the thinnest Android device, the HTC Ville Android phone is more faster than other HTC Android phones. The HTC Ville is sadi to the most thinnest Android phone also with it’s multi processing processor called Snapdragon S4 from the Qualcomm. The Snapdragon S4 is a dual processor which will feature Qualcomm’s Krait core, much more than 60% increased performance of Scorpion micro- architecture with the later versions of the Snapdragon i.e, S1, S2 and S3.

Buy it, plug it in and ready to go ?

Partially true, since all softwares(i Life) and drivers are preinstalled and you won’t have to install anything unless you want some 3rd party applications installed (like the Microsoft Office for MAC). The i Life software package contains a video editing software i Movie, Audio editing and composing software ‘Garage Band‘ and a simple photo management software ‘i Photo’ and DVD burning application ‘i DVD’ and lots more.. and the best thing is that they are all works like a singe integrated solution for eg. if you want to insert a nice audio track or loop into your video, the i Movie automatically searches the tracks you created using the Garage Band and displays them.. MAC make everything a bit easier for you.

It never crashes ?

The Macbook Pro, I saw had a 2.26 GHz Intel Processor and 2 GB DDR3 RAM..it never crashed..switching between i Movie, i Photo, Garage Band and tonnes of other application was flawless. So may be it won’t crash unless you really tried hard.

It packs quad-band GSM support and either UMTS 2100 Mhz with HSDPA or UMTS 850/1900/2100 with both HSDPA and HSUPA. From the looks of it, the second option dubbed “US version” sounds that much better.

Thanks to the built-in accelerometer, the G705 offers auto screen rotation that works even in the browser (which is further enhanced by the dedicated web shortcuts).

The built-in GPS works in cooperation with the preinstalled Google Maps and Wayfinder (with three-month free navigation license) and additionally offers image geotagging. The G705 sports a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash, which unfortunately doesn’t have auto focus on board (now that’s a big downer). A certain novelty is that the videos captured by the camera can now be uploaded directly to YouTube. YouTube downloads will also be possible and Sony Ericsson will be releasing other YouTube-enabled handsets in the future.

The Sony Ericsson G705 is further equipped with stereo Bluetooth, FM radio with RDS, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support and comes with 1GB M2 memory card in the retail package.

Sony Ericsson also release a UMA-enabled handset – that would be the Sony Ericsson G705u – a version that is made exclusively for Orange and allows for seamless calls handover between the carrier network and wireless Wi-Fi networks.

HTC Launches it new smartphone into the market named Vivid. Hardware wise, the HTC Vivid is a familiar sight. The smartphone is essentially put together from the parts bin of the HTC Sensation 4G and HTC EVO 3D, save for its 4.5“ screen and beefed up built-in memory – it packs a well familiar dual-core CPU, clocked at 1.2GHz and a Snapdragon S3 chipset.

HTC has intentionally omitted features such as an HD screen and a beefed up CPU in order to maintain the flagship status of the Beats Audio sporting, HTC Rezound for Verizon Wireless. the main disadvantages of HTC Vivid are Screen performance is not on par with the best offerings and there is no dedicated camera button for HTC Vivid.

Samsung Galaxy Note aims to squeeze the high-res screen and battery longevity of a tablet into a package that is still pocketable and it does – but success is by no means guaranteed. There’s nothing between the Galaxy Note and 7″ tablets. And while it sounds good to have all that room to themselves, Samsung need to fill it with meaning. The right kind of users will be easily convinced of the advantages of an enlarged Galaxy S II.

The Exynost chipset’s got a faster CPU, the AMOLED screen has a million pixels and, most importantly, there’s more of it. And even the notoriously power-hungry Android will have a hard time pushing through the 2500 mAh battery in a day and there’s the S Pen, which promises to add a whole new dimension to the smartphone experience. Good old-fashioned notepads haven’t been having a blast lately, but the Note threatens to put another nail in their coffin.

AMDs Fusion APUs seem to be trickling in the market gradually and giving stiff competition to Intel’s Atom CPUs. You can already find HP’s Pavilion DM1-3014au selling in the market with AMDs Fusion APU and today we have an entrant from Asus; the soon to be launched 1215B Eee PC from their Seashell line up.

The 1215B is a twin of the 1215N that we reviewed a while back that featured Nvidia’s ION 2 chipset. The 1215B comes with different configurations and the one we’ll be reviewing today is powered by the C-50 APU running at 1GHz. There’s 2GB of system memory and a 250GB hard drive that should be enough for Windows 7 Starter Edition. You get different color options; ours had a nice brushed metal type finish on the lid and a palm rest.

There is a big compartment underneath to swap the memory or add more. The 1215B supports up to 4GB in total but only single channel.

Just like the ION variant, the 1215B comes with an HDMI port as well. The onboard Fusion APU can easily handle 1080p output to an HDTV.

Although the website mentions USB 3.0 support, this will vary from region to region. Our unit didn’t have USB 3.0 onboard, just three USB 2.0 ports. Despite the slender design, the netbook feels a bit weighty with the 6-cell battery

The keyboard is the standard chiclet type that we have come to love from Asus. The palm rest has ample amount of space for even large hands and the keys are quite comfortable to use as well.

MacBook Air killers are finally amongst us in the form of Intel’s latest category of high performing, light and slim notebooks called Ultrabooks. We recently reviewed the debutant among these, the Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook. Today we have another contender ready to gun down the MacBook Air. Is it a worthy opponent?

Build/Design and Ports
Asus has gone all out with the looks of the Zenbook and taken a leaf from the MacBook Air design. In terms of its weight and dimensions, it is almost identical to the Air. You will not be able to make out the difference with the naked eye. The device even has a tapering design from its thickest to its thinnest point.

The aluminum lid has an attractive circular design and the device overall feels very solid and well-built. The build quality is far superior to the Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook.

In terms of connectivity, the device comes well loaded. The left of the device has a USB 2.0 port along with a headphones jack and an SD card slot. On the right of the device we have a USB 3.0 port (which the Acer lacked), a mini VGA port and a micro HDMI port. It should be noted that you do get a USB to Ethernet adapter and a VGA adapter in the box with the device, which is a very good addition. As for the MacBook Air, these accessories have to be purchased separately.

All the ports are neatly located on either side and the overall look, feel and first impressions of the device are fantastic. So far, a perfect contender to take on Apple’s slim beauty.

Keyboard and track pad
The keyboard is chicklet style, well laid out and doesn’t compromise on the size of essential keys such as enter and directional keys when compared to the Acer. Having said that, the keys aren’t the most comfortable to type on in the first instance. This is because they lack depth, so typing feels a bit rigid. The keys aren’t backlit like the Air either.

The trackpad also has a similar story to tell. It is nearly as large as the one on the Air in size, but feels light years behind in terms of utility. It is a bit sluggish to use at first, and once you have brought it up to speed by adjusting the settings, the performance improves marginally.

The multi-touch of the trackpad too isn’t something to boast off as it isn’t very responsive and there are moments when the curser jumps all over the screen. While typing on the keyboard too, we found that a slight touch of the palm on the trackpad causes it to react dramatically. This is definitely an area where Asus needs to improve on the device in its next iteration.

Display and audio
The display on the Asus Zenbook has a definite edge over the MacBook Air as it boasts of a resolution of 1600×900 where as the Air has a resolution of 1400×900. We ran a couple of 1080p movies on the machine and they played smoothly without any hiccups. The colours look vibrant and a single person can have an enjoyable viewing experience to the device. The downside here is that the viewing angles of the device are bad.

For its audio output, the Zenbook boasts of B&O speakers and we must admit they rank very high. For such a slim and light machine the speakers had a thumpy and clear bass (very difficult to find on a slim laptop), good low and mid range frequencies and sharp treble. Put simply, the speakers on this device are really good and pack quite a punch especially if you consider the size of the device.

Performance
Apart from all the entertainment value that an Ultrabook can offer, the power under the hood should be able to take care of mundane everyday activities such as browsing the web, MS office and more. The performance of the Zenbook here is great. It got through all everyday activities with no problem.

As far as horsepower is concerned, the device offers you a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS, 4GBRAM, an Intel Core i7 processor clocked at 1.80GHz, Intel HD graphics, 256GB SSD and Bluetooth 4.0.

With an SSD under the hood, the boot time of the device is swift and fast, under 20sec, which beats the Acer Aspire S3 by 17sec. The sleep-to-wake time too is great at under 2sec.

In the benchmark scores, the device performed quite well scoring 4086 on the 3D mark. This means that you can expect to run most modern day games on the device but not at their highest settings. This is a leap ahead when compared to the Acer Aspire S3, which scored a mere 3239.

On the PC mark, the Zenbook scored 7872, which is really good and ensures that you can perform multi-tasking on the device with absolute ease if the apps you are running aren’t too heavy duty.

On the battery mark, and this one is a killer, the device ran for 3 and a half hours in high performance mode with full brightness and 100% load on the CPU. That’s great. We used the device conservatively too with average everyday work on a full charge and the device lasted for almost 6 hours. Needless to say the battery life on this device is really good. All the benchmark tests we performed on it were conducted in high performance mode.

Verdict
Overall, the device is a great candidate to represent the first generation Ultrabooks. You may even consider picking this one up if a slim performing beauty is what you need. But hold on. The price tag on the device is a whopping Rs. 89,990. That’s nearly double the price of the Acer Aspire S3 (Which costs 50k) and here’s the shocker, costs exactly the same amount as the top of the line 13-inch MacBook Air. In comparison, the MacBook Air offers you better value for money but if Windows is your choice of OS and you can overlook the average performing keyboard and troublesome trackpad, you can give this one a second glance.

Price: Rs, 89,990

Pros:
